Prayer Devotion November 4, 2015

We humans make plans, but the Lord has the final word. We may think we know what is right, but the Lord is the judge of our motives.Share your plans with the Lord, and you will succeed. Proverbs 16: 1-3

I cannot tell you how many times that I have made plans without discussing them with the Lord. Sometimes I planned in my mind because I didn’t really want God’s input. At those times, my motivations were almost always self-serving, selfish and yes childish. More often than not those self-made plans like mice and men often went awry. As I read this passage in my quiet time this morning a great comfort came over me as I read verse 3. Share your plans with the Lord, and you will succeed. I suddenly felt that I not only wanted to share my plans with the Lord, I actually am inspired to have a plan. Most of you know that I am not a great pre-planner, I approach each day with a list of things I need to accomplish but seldom do I dream a long term plan. I felt a resurgence of a long-neglected need to sit down with the Lord and search my heart. What is God trying to accomplish through me?

Today I urge you to dream. Take all the things swimming around in your head and in your heart and offer them up to God. Together with God make a plan on how you are going to carry out God-honoring things in your life. And together with God make a plan on how you are giving up those things that separate you from God’s Holy Presence. Do you have major hurdles to overcome? Make a plan with God.

Do you have some big decisions to make? Make a plan with God.

A well thought out plan shared with God will succeed if we take the time to work it out with God.
